Healthy cities need healthy trees and plants
Climate change brings extreme weather conditions: droughts and downpours alternate. This poses a major challenge for our plants and trees in urban areas. Urban greenery withers particularly during hot spells. This restricts plant growth and flowering periods, and therefore has a direct impact on a city’s resilience to heat. Without healthy trees and plants, there is no shade, no cooling and no biodiversity.
However, maintaining and watering urban greenery is costly and requires a large amount of water and energy. This includes the use of water tankers, staff and pumping systems.
So how can we keep trees and plants in the city green and healthy in an efficient way?
